Backpacking Tents

Backpacker tents need to be lightweight and compact as you will be carrying it all day.
Take a good look at the size as a two person tent may really only be enough room for one hiker plus gear, two people squeezed together or plenty of room. Also many of these bivy tents do not have much height so you may only be able to sit up, while with others you can stand.
When purchasing backpacker tents consider:
- Size, for one or two hikers and any space for covering your gear
- Weight, needs to be lightweight as you will be carrying the backpacking tent for long distances. Most of these tents are from 2 to 6 pounds in weight
- Compact, so that it does not take much room in your backpack
- Ventilation, to keep you cool on hot summer days and to dry the tent quickly in the morning. You would prefer not to hike with a wet and heavier tent
- Fabric, is it waterproof or does a fly
- Is a footprint required
- Ease of setup after a long day on the trail
- Pockets can also be handy for small items such as that flashlight you might need in the middle of the night
- Framing, is it self supporting or provide poles that fit in your pack
