Bicycle Touring Tent

A bicycle touring tent may be required if you are cycling on a self supported tour and camping for accommodation.
I have also used a bivy tent on an organized group bicycle tour where about 500 cyclists moved each day to a new campsite and we were limited by the amount and weight of luggage permitted by the organizers. My tent and sleeping bag had to fit in wheeled duffle luggage.
And a third situation would be when car camping and riding on a series of day trips where weight is not as important. Whatever the style you will require a good bicycle touring tent.
There are some tents designed especially for bicycle touring and some backpacking tents which also work well for this inexpensive option.
Tips on what to look for in a bike tent:
- One or two person tent. Some 2 person tents only really only hold 1 person and gear or two people very tightly so check the size
- Lightweight, about 2 to 6 pounds is preferred
- Compact space required to carry on your bicycle
- Quality waterproofing as you are sure to encounter rain during your trip. Also is a footprint required
- Ventilation
- Framing (tent poles) or alternate system as some use the bicycle itself
