Cons about the Eureka Apex 2XT Adventure Two-Person Tent

  • The tent is somewhat heavy at over 5lbs, however if you have one person carry the fly and the other the tent it is fine. Also some people use aluminium poles to reduce the weight.
  • Although listed as a two person tent it would be very tight if using air mattresses.

About Eureka

In 1960, Eureka’s new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.

For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.

What customers think of the Eureka Apex 2XT Adventure Two-Person Tent

Many reviewers talked about the size with one stating the tent fit two average sized adults without a problem, and we stayed very warm and dry.

Reviewers love the vestibules with one person mentioning the full vestibules on both sides is a must-have feature of this tent–great for storing gear, boots, and even cooking while under protective cover (unzip rainfly a bit before starting a stove). The two large entrance doors on both sides make entry and exit from the tent easy.

Another thing reviewers talked about was the weight. For example when backpacking, the weight is a bit on the heavy side. However if you are going on a trek with an adult partner, given them a tent pole and the rainfly, and a ground cloth. Meanwhile, you keep a tent pole, the tent itself, and the stakes–that is just over 2 pounds (nice for the ultralight packer).

Weather is always important when backpacking and this reviewer stated I have used this tent in weather ranging from calm winds to rain in moderate temperatures to 30mph winds and snow on the ground. It is easy to set up quickly, free-standing, and very roomy. I camp/hike/hunt with a 60lb dog and even without the vestibules, there is plenty of room for the two of us and all of our gear. Even with two adults in the tent, there is plenty of room for the dog to sleep comfortably.

Honestly the best backpacking tent I’ve ever used! My wife and I purchased this tent to take with us to Central America during our Peace Corps service. We used it during the 2 1/2 years in Belize and camped all over the country using it. The tent withstood plenty of rainstorms, swarms of tropical mosquitoes, insects, and even the occasional nocturnal mammal falling on it out of the tree during the night. It’s compact size was great for transporting it in our backpacks. When we would go out camping it was normally for 2 to 4 nights, so we took smaller size backpacks. This could either be shoved into the side or strapped onto bottom of the backpacks no problem. The side storage spaces were invaluable for us while camping. It allowed us to maintain our space inside the tent but still protect our gear. It really is a shame they no longer have this model out there. But, if you can find any current model which is close to this I would say go for it.As far as durability goes, we used this thing pretty much all the…

My tent Bumbee, as we called it I have owned this tent for seven years, and took it on 1-2 backpacking and camping trips each year. I purchased it with limited knowledge as to what would make a good backpacking tent, but fortunately this one met all of our needs. It easily fit my sister and I (we’re each about 5’7″) and we could manage sleeping with packs at our feet if needed, though it would get a bit snug. The rainfly provided ample vestibule room for shoes (and packs if needed, though I prefer to have them in the tent) and would keep rain out even with high winds. Though it could perhaps be lighter, the weight is still prefect for backpackinng. It also works as a one-person tent, though I personally would want something lighter if I’m the only one carrying it. Set up is quick and straightforward, and we never had any difficulties there. Unfrotunately, my tent was recently stolen, and I’m really goinng to miss it.My favorite features:-Dual mesh pockets inside, useful for storing notepads,…

Perfect tent for my fiance’ and I… We’ve taken this tent out on several camping trips now, put it through different weather conditions, and slept in it several times so I thought I’d go ahead and give it a review. This tent has been absolutely perfect for my fiance’ and I. We generally do several car camping trips per year, mostly in the spring and fall, which in Arkansas can encompass a variety of weather conditions. We’ve set the tent up on a variety of surfaces, the tent has held up extremely well to all of this.PROS:–GREAT IF YOU’RE TALL! If you’re exploring the XT because you’re a taller guy, I can tell you that I am 6’3″ and fit in this tent PLENTY comfortably. Room for me, pillow at my head, gear at my feet.–Tent has plenty of space for two. I’m a big guy. My fiance is of average build. It is a perfect fit for us, with necessary gear at our feet.–TENT IS TOUGH! This tent has been extremely durable. I would say we take decent care of it, but I have packed it up a couple times…
